A bright start: Strengthening literacy in Postmasburg and beyond
May 2025
Teachers at Boichoko Early Childhood Development Centre in Postmasburg, Northern Cape, recently completed Workshops 4 and 5 of the Stellar program. These sessions continue to support early literacy programs by helping educators build early literacy and language skills in their Grade R classrooms.

Our Stellar programme officially launched on 24 February, after orientation on 11 February and a strong start with Workshops 1 to 3 at Boichoko ECD in Postmasburg, Northern Cape.
Recently, teachers completed Workshops 4 and 5 of the Stellar programme – and it’s been truly heartening to see their excitement and full participation every step of the way.
Teachers are already noticing the impact. As one shared:
“We no longer have to spend hours wondering what activities to do with our learners. The programme gives us structure, and the children love the storytelling and songs.”
The Stellar Home Language programme is for Grade R educators working with 5–6-year-old children. The programme is designed to strengthen language and emergent literacy in Grade R classrooms.
Supported by the Lesedi Solar Park Trust, this initiative supports Grade R teachers to bring the Setswana literacy curriculum to life in classrooms across Postmasburg, Danielskuil, and Lime Acres – giving young children the strong start they deserve.
Here’s to making early learning joyful, structured, and meaningful – one ECD centre at a time.
