Children learn best through a mix of free and guided play—both offer rich opportunities for language development activities and building early literacy and language skills.

Regardless of whether a play activity falls closer to free play or guided play on the continuum, optimal learning through play occurs when children are encouraged with affirmations such as “well done”, “nice try” and even a “high five” as depicted in the picture above.
