Farewell to our G.O.A.Ts (Greatest of All Time)

April 2024

In April 2024, we said farewell to three remarkable members of the Wordworks family: Gaynor, Faheema, and Lavinia. Each of them brought unwavering dedication, compassion, and purpose to our mission of building early literacy and language skills in homes and classrooms.

These dedicated women have been instrumental in supporting our work on the ground for many years, and their impact has been deeply felt in the schools and communities they’ve served through the SCP (School and Community of Practice) Programmes Their presence will be dearly missed by colleagues and school partners alike.

During the farewell, fellow staff members shared heartfelt reflections and joyful memories, celebrating the powerful legacy they have built together. Reflecting on their journey at Wordworks, this is what the three legends had to say: Faheema shared, “I really enjoyed my journey as an HSP mentor. For me, it never was work – it was something I wanted to do.” Gaynor added, “I got so excited about this programme and knew it would be helpful if we could get parents involved. I ran HSP for seven years at the school I was at before joining Wordworks. It was hard work, with lots of late nights, but we put in the time and it was worth it.”Lavinia closed with, “As a former principal, I’ve learnt so much more during my time at Wordworks. You don’t realise the impact of this programme – not just in our schools, but in South Africa.”

Farewell our friends, your legacy lives on in every child, parent, and teacher you’ve inspired.
