Home–School Partnerships (HSP) program thrives in the Eastern Cape

September 2024

Wordworks’ Home–School Partnerships (HSP) program was rolled out in Elliot, Eastern Cape, in collaboration with Little Seeds—marking the second time this home–school initiative has been delivered in the province to support early childhood education in South Africa.

A group of Early Childhood Development (ECD) practitioners took part in the HSP training, which prepares facilitators to work with parents and caregivers to support early language and literacy development. Following their training, the practitioners led the eight-week program with 15 parents from nearby primary schools. All participants received certificates on completion.

The HSP programme is designed for Foundation Phase and Learning Support teachers to create inclusive spaces for parents to explore how they can support their children’s learning at home. Sessions focus on building practical strategies for early literacy and language development, while encouraging peer learning and shared experiences.

The Elliot rollout reflects ongoing efforts to extend the reach of the programme beyond the Western Cape, in support of building stronger links between homes and schools across South Africa.
