Sanlam Foundation supports Little Stars training in the Western Cape

06/05/2025

Sanlam Foundation-supported facilitators led their first full-day Little Stars training with Early Childhood Development (ECD) practitioners from Malmesbury, Darling, Riebeek-Kasteel, and Moorreesburg. The session equipped practitioners with tools and strategies to strengthen early literacy and language development in young children.

The training was full of energy and enthusiasm as facilitators guided practitioners through stories, songs, and activities central to the Little Stars programme. Participants left inspired and ready to bring these interactive, home-language-based literacy activities into their classrooms.

Little Stars focuses on learning in children’s home languages, helping young learners build strong literacy foundations that prepare them for school success. Wordworks’ Early Literacy Specialists continue to support practitioners through site visits and teach-back sessions, reinforcing skills and boosting confidence.

Partnerships like this, enabled by the Sanlam Foundation, highlight the power of collaboration between NGOs, funders, and communities. Together, we strengthen the early literacy ecosystem and ensure that children in under-resourced areas have access to engaging, high-quality early learning experiences.
