Stellar teacher training and support provided by Wordworks in one Western Cape district developed a positive reputation which led to the invitation from the WCED to integrate the Stellar Home Language Programme into the province’s Emergent Literacy (ELIT) intervention in 2016. Sustaining the intervention:
The Stellar programme continues to be used in the Western Cape as the official Grade R Home Language programme and the partnership with Wordworks remains strong. The WCED continues to invite Wordworks to provincial and district events and platforms, and encourages teachers to attend our online refresher training and has initiated procurement for updated materials for all teachers.

This 2017 report shares findings from a study of the Western Cape’s Emergent Literacy Project (ELIT), showing how the STELLAR programme’s ‘cascaded training with support’ model reached 2,973 Grade R teachers and influenced teaching and early literacy outcomes.
