Supporting trainers at Rhodes University CSD through TIME and HSP

09/05/2025

Wordworks returned to the Rhodes University Centre for Social Development (CSD) to support trainers involved in the Mayikhule project, generously funded by the Albert Wessels Trust. The visit strengthened trainer confidence and practical skills for implementing TIME and HSP programmes.

The session began with a mood meter check-in, creating a warm and engaging environment for meaningful discussions. Trainers received ongoing guidance from Wordworks Early Literacy Specialists, ensuring they feel supported while facilitating activities in schools and communities. Attendance was excellent, with 80% of trainers participating.

Following initial training in the TIME (Together in My Education) and Home–School Partnerships (HSP) programmes, Wordworks continues site visits and mentorship to help trainers apply strategies effectively. This approach ensures that teachers, parents, and learners fully benefit from the programmes.

By working closely with trainers, schools, and communities, Wordworks adapts TIME and HSP to local needs, fostering stronger home-school connections and supporting early literacy development in meaningful, practical ways.
