Supporting literacy and learning at Belhar Academy

Wordworks Early Literacy Specialist Ntsiki Ntsusikazi visited Belhar Academy to support the TIME (Together In My Education) Programme. The visit highlighted how teachers and learners are using interactive, CAPS-aligned activities to strengthen early literacy, language development, and foundational mathematics skills.

During the visit, learners engaged in fun, hands-on activities, focusing on letter sounds like “C” through games, storytelling, and guided practice. Teachers actively supported learners, fostering confidence, curiosity, and early reading skills from the start.

Seeing teachers and learners collaborate in a playful, consistent, and supportive environment reinforces the importance of strong home-school connections. Wordworks resources help children build essential literacy skills while making learning enjoyable and meaningful.

The TIME Programme is designed for parents, caregivers, and afterschool facilitators of children in Grade R and Grade 1. It provides practical, CAPS-aligned activities for use at home or in after-school settings, helping children strengthen language, literacy, and numeracy foundations for lifelong learning.
