Rhodes CSD and Masinyusane bring TIME and HSP to life

Rhodes CSD and Masiyusane are one of many other organisations implementing Wordworks’ HSP (Home-School Partnerships) programmes in the Eastern Cape, bringing the early literacy programme and TIME home learning activities into homes and classrooms. Wordworks recently visited both organisations to observe progress and support ongoing implementation.

During the site visits, the team observed school-based parent training sessions and met with School Management Teams (SMTs) to discuss progress and strategies for sustaining the programmes. Many parents, despite being unemployed, showed remarkable commitment to supporting their children’s learning.

Wordworks’ Early Literacy Specialists were inspired by the positive impact across schools. Senior management reported stronger connections between parents and teachers, creating collaborative home-school partnerships.

Parents shared experiences of growth in patience, listening, and engagement with their children. Teachers noted that learners who were previously shy became more confident, actively participating in class and retelling stories shared at home.

Through ongoing collaboration with schools and communities, Wordworks continues to strengthen home-school partnerships and provide practical educational resources for parents, helping children build strong foundations in early language learning and literacy.
